Many have expressed concern for Twitter’s new owner and his social views since he bought the company. In the months since then, many of its members and advertisers left.

One promising alternative micro-blogging service is just a few years old. To many, Mastodon follows in the footsteps of what Twitter used to be.

Join PMUG President Aric Pedersen when he will describe the current landscape of Twitter-alternative social media services, and Mastodon in particular.

Aric will explain what Mastodon’s members can do, how to join, and the service’s basics — including the desktop/mobile app, how to make posts, how to reply to other people’s posts, how to use hashtags, and more.) We hope you will join us!

The meeting will be held online through Zoom — members should check their e-mail for instructions on how to connect and attend. We hope you can join us. A limited number of non-member audience “seats” at our Zoom meeting are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you wish to attend, please e-mail pres@pmug-nj.org, and include your full name to receive an invitation with connection information.
