My friends and family know that I am a news junkie. I have over two hundred RSS feeds in Google Reader. I’ve tried quite a few iPad and iPhone RSS readers. While there are quite a few RSS functional readers for the iPad, most have poor user-interfaces and or lack important features. Some, like Pulse, have a beautiful user interface but are not quite useful for people — like myself — with large feed list.
The Feed is a FREE RSS reader front end to Google Reader that is both functional, feature rich and has a well designed user interface. Setup is easy — provide your Gmail account information — but it has sharing functions for Twitter, Facebook, Google Reader, and Email. I’ve been using it for a few days and despite a few minor bugs I think I may keep it on my iPad for a while. It still needs a few features – Read it Later or Instapaper support – before it can displace Reeder on my iPhone and iPad. Why should you try it then? Did I mention it was free? Reeder is $4.99 in the App Store while my previous RSS reader, NetNewWire, is $9.99 in the App Store.
